Dr Ana Rodrigues

Doctor

Ana Rodrigues qualified in Paris in 2008, where she specialised in General Practice. After her internship, she worked in general practice and accident and emergency in hospital Nord Parisien in Paris. Although Ana has lived much of her life in France, she is of Portuguese parentage and felt that she would like to return to her roots.

Ana joined the IHC team in October 2017 and is our resident doctor and Clinical Director. When not working Dr Ana enjoys spending time with her young daughter and husband and keeps fit with out door walks, sub-aqua diving and horse riding amongst other outdoor activities.

Dr Pedro Carmo

Doctor

Dr Pedro Carmo qualified in the UK in 2012 at the Hull York Medical School. After spending some years working in accident and emergency, he completed his GP training in East Sussex. Originally from Lagos in the Algarve, and having lived in the UK for 17 years, he decided to return to Portugal to spend more time with his family and look for a new professional challenge. He joined the practice in 2021. Time off is spent micro-light flying and playing the guitar.

Dr Tiago Almendra

Doctor

Dr Tiago Almendra qualified in Portugal at the Minho University in Braga in the North West of Portugal. He then completed his training in General Practice and Family Medicine in the same district of Braga. For 4 years he was the doctor of Sporting Club de Braga youth football squads and other sports teams, and responsible for their health issues and well-being. When he was younger, he was a swimmer and a football player and for that reason he is a sports lover. Besides his specialty in Family Medicine and General Practice, he completed a Sports specialisation in Porto and other studies, such as ultrasound training, International Federation of Sports Medicine Team Physician course and International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Medicine.

Dr Tiago decided in 2022 to relocate to the Algarve with his wife, and joined the International Health Centres in January of 2023. He speaks Portuguese, English and Italian. In his spare time, he likes to surf, swim, play football or relax on the lovely Algarvian Beaches!!

Dr Gail Barreto

Doctor

Dr. Gail Barreto graduated from Charles University in the Czech Republic in 2018. She then completed her Foundation Training in Wiltshire, UK, before undertaking her General Practice specialty training in Hertfordshire, UK. During her training, she gained broad clinical experience across a range of specialties, including acute medicine, care of the elderly, gynaecology, and paediatrics, as well as working in several GP practices throughout Hertfordshire. Originally from Goa and raised in London, she relocated to the Algarve in 2024 to join her Portuguese husband and joined the practice in 2026. Outside of work, she enjoys making the most of the Algarve’s beautiful outdoors, cooking, and discovering the region’s best coffee spots.

Teresa Ferreira

Reception

Teresa Ferreira is in charge of reception at the International Health Centres. The reception provides an important link for patients with the practice and is your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with patient records, carrying out searches and booking specialist appointments, amongst other things. Teresa is always available for a chat about any queries you may have.

Michelle

Reception

As our practice continues to grow, Michelle joined in September 2021 and works alongside Teresa in reception. Michelle also makes patient appointments with our doctors, physiotherapist, podiatrist and psychologist, and will also guide you regarding using our online repeat prescription service as well as booking specialist appointments, amongst other things.

Gail Serra

Practice Management

Gail Serra is involved in managing the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
